About the Department
Civil Engineering has a long and distinguished history. It originated with the management of natural water resources such as dams and canals, and gradually expanded into the design and construction of buildings and structures of all kinds.
Today, Civil Engineers are responsible for designing an enormous range of structures — from towers, bridges, and oil rigs to highways and land reclamation projects. Diploma engineers play a vital role in detailing concepts, creating models, and producing design drawings, with work now fully computerized and 3D modeling becoming the standard.
The discipline also encompasses pollution control, groundwater management, and highway design and construction. At the local level, Civil diploma holders are in high demand for real estate development and municipal activities.
